For this project, I chose to focus on sculpting the human foot in an arched position while making the model as anatomically accurate as possible through the study of muscles, tendons, and bones. I also wanted to explore rigging and joint use within Mudbox, adding an extra layer of challenge to my sculpting process.
I began with a base foot model and posed it in the arched position I envisioned. After getting the pose right, I began sculpting based on detailed anatomical references. I carefully studied the visible veins, tendons, and bones, paying particular attention to how they would appear in this position, as well as the creases along the bottom of the foot and toenails. The hardest part was ensuring anatomical accuracy while also balancing the details. Particularly when it came to the veins and wrinkles. I often found myself wanting to overdo these elements, but I learned that sometimes less is more.
I'm really happy with the outcome of this model. Not only did I get to practice detailed sculpting, but I also deepened my understanding of anatomy in 3D.
